Turns out the description attached to this photo is actually describing a photo I took just before this one. In the photo here, Parliament Hill is actually toward the top right corner and the rest of downtown isn't really in the shot. The bottom right is Gatineau. You can see all three relevant waterways here... On the left is the Rideau River, on the right is the Rideau Canal, both of which flow into the larger Ottawa River. The ByWard Market is in the top portion of the picture, between the Rideau River and the Canal.
